Wedding to do list

By Jessica

As of this month I officially have 9 months until my wedding.
I remember over a year ago thinking that I had all the time in the world and
suddenly I feel overwhelmed with everything that I have to do. I thought it
might help me to get my head on straight if I wrote down all of my plans. Maybe
some of my beautiful bridesmaids will read this and decide to help out (hint,
hint). Though on second thought I should probably actually start asking them to
be my bridesmaids in the first place; I’ve kind of gotten behind on that one. Yeah
we should really get started on this train soon.
What we have done so far:
The Venue is booked.
The DJ is booked.
The photographer is booked.
The flowers are selected.
The dress is chosen.
The registry started.
Basically all the easy stuff is out of the way. I’m glad I
at least got that much done, and while I’m not looking forward to a lot of the
stuff left on the list, I am very much looking forward to getting crafty with
my girls.

What is left to be done:
Invitations designed. Ordered. And Sent.
Guest list finalized. Addresses found and organized.
Bridal party finalized (since we haven’t been good about
asking people officially).
Website designed & hashtag chosen (yeah it’s necessary).
Dress Altered. And outfit details configured.
Men’s wear chosen.
Menu decided on.
Cake baker booked.
Hotel room booked (for us and a block selected for guests).
Centerpieces designed.
Ceremony & reception signage designed.
Guest book designed.
Favors created.
With everything laid out nicely I feel like its doable,
though I wonder if I am taking on too much. I am custom designing a lot of the
details. Worst case scenario I give up and go the store bought route. I am ok
with it if that happens, but I suppose we will cross that bridge when it gets
here.
I am looking forward to crossing a few things off this list
in the coming months. I want a nice relaxed summer without a bunch of running
around, so I am hoping to get as much done as possible before the end of June.
Again we will see how that works out. It’s a lot to think about, and a lot to
do, but it’s definitely not impossible.
Wish me luck!

PS: Any suggestions for getting it all done without tearing
my hair out? They are greatly appreciated!

Choosing the Wedding Colors

By Jessica

Choosing colors for me was possibly the easiest part of this whole
thing. Both Chuck and I love the color green, in all of its various shades and
hues, besides as a red head it goes pretty perfectly with my hair. There. Done.
I chose to add silver silver mainly because I needed another color
other than white, and I figured all my jewelry is silver anyway.
Over time as I created pinterest boards and picked out things
I liked the color theme kind of morphed into a thing of its own and there is a
lot going on here.

Green is still the base, but I really want wild flowers instead of
uptight, florest-y looking things. Not that there is anything wrong with this,
it’s just never been my style. So basically whatever flowers happen to be in
season, and that people we know grow, are what we are going with. I’ve already done some scouting and I think they are going to look awesome! They are
going to be an array of colors and that’s just fine with me.

I started choosing favors, and decorations that centered around
earthy browns and greens and started to realize that I wasn’t really going to
have a color theme in the end. I’m cool with that, because that is the story of
my life, and a total reflection of how Chuck and I live our lives. What could
be wrong with that?

Our Engagement Photos

By Jessica

This day was magic. I don’t know why it was the pictures
that made the whole thing real, but it finally hit me that I’m getting married!
Yes after well over a year of being engaged I finally had that gut retching
feeling of wow this is happening. And it’s awesome.

A super special thanks to our awesome photographer AndreaCho. She made the whole thing so painless and easy, and her work is
astonishing. If you are in the Burlington area you should check her out!

P.S. We did all of these photos at Shelburne Farms.

P.P.S. There are more pictures on my wedding page.

The Wedding Location

By Jessica

Well ladies and gents it’s official; we chose a location for our wedding and it only took us 10ish months.
I knew planning a wedding would be tough, but I hope it gets easier from here on out. For us the big problem is that our families are centered about 1.5 hours apart, which is just far enough to make it really hard to pick a location. Do you choose something equidistant? 45 minutes is still a fairly long ride, especially for a DD. Do you choose one town and make the other family drive? But then how do you choose one side or the other? And you will upset a person with any of these options, that’s just a fact of the matter. I wish someone told me to be prepared for that one.
In the end money and hotel location made all the difference. The local Elk’s Club is perfect for our budget, and so close to downtown, hotels, and major highways. And added plus is that is it beautiful! I really wanted to avoid places that had fancy chandeliers and designed carpets, because I was afraid they would contrast with the feel of the wedding that I want (rustic). Besides I didn’t want my wedding to feel just like 10,000 other weddings that are held at those kinds of venues. This place is like a blank canvas, with super high, white ceilings that have pot lights and a basic carpet floor. Decorating is probably the part I am most excited about. I even created a whole Pinterest board for it already. Now that, that is out of the way I really hope the rest of the planning goes smoothly. There is still 13 more months to go so there’s plenty of time for a big catastrophe. I suppose we will have to wait and see.

The Best Fall Picnic of my Life

By Jessica

Fall is quite possibly my favorite season (it’s a close race with spring), but I’m pretty sure that it is Chuck’s too. He mentioned wanting to go on a picnic several weeks ago, and we just never had the chance to go until this weekend, only to find out it was supposed to rain.

We decided on Thursday night that we would both sneak out of work early and go Friday evening. I thought this would be the perfect time to showcase my favorite fall picnic treats here on the blog, so I tossed together a really fabulous meal. We found a local park on the river with beautiful willow trees to sit under and laid out our blanket.

It was as we were finishing the last of treats and wine that Chuck told me he wanted to talk to me. He made me turn to face him. Then he pulled out a small box, and I had a complete breakdown. It took a few minutes and him asking me twice before I could say yes, but we are now engaged!

I’m sorry I don’t have more better pictures for you, but I was enjoying my
moment. I plan to follow this up with a couple of pretty awesome recipes in the next few days or so, so hang tight.

I just couldn’t help but share this little story of mine. I’m so happy, and feel
so incredibly blessed that I really can’t put it into words.
