Growing up I never realized quite how different eating frog legs really was. While I was certainly exposed to typical American fare, a lot of our food came from the land, including a variety of wild animals and fish. To me they were a delicacy enjoyed only a few times a year, to my schoolmates this was unheard of, and to my father and grandfather, this was just a way of life….
This recipe was originally published in 2012 as one of the first recipes to appear on Sweet Love & Ginger (then American Ginger Diaries, I think?). Since then it has remained a family favorite, and one of the only recipes that Chuck repeatedly asks for. I mean if he has to eat seafood it might as well have maple syrup on, it right? It’s the Vermonter in him I suppose….
I love a good piccata in the early spring. The light and bright flavor just sings spring to me, and since lemons are just ebbing out of season it’s a great time to take advantage of that.

Winter can be a tough season for many. Its dark and cold, which causes a lot of people to avoid going outdoors, but can also lead to restlessness, grumpiness, and in some cases depression. I, like many of you, I’m sure, have dealt with this before and over the years I have found my own way to combat the winter blues.
I’m starting to feel my age. Not in the sense that I feel feeble and tired, though I’m pretty tired of this shoulder injury, but I’m feeling it on an intellectual/emotional level. We’ve got summer interns in the office now and nothing makes you feel old like having a couple cocky young things almost 10 years younger than you hanging around. I mean really, I was one of the youngest people in the office until last week, my whole life ahead of me and all that, now looking at them I almost feel bad because they have so much to learn and suddenly they are looking at me like I know it all.
