C&G November

Documenting the big moments in life have become increasingly important to me and in an attempt to get better at it this year I will be doing a monthly series C&G (or Chuck and Ginger). I hope to use this series as a way to remember our first year of marriage together. Each month I will include the event’s from the 19th of the previous month to the 18^th of the current month, allowing the series to end on our first anniversary.

At the end of October they dressed up as Peg & Al Bundy for Halloween and went to a pretty cool party.

With the house in running order they decided to cut a big hole in the wall and add a sliding door in the dining room with the help of Poppa Chuck.

He went hunting and brought home the big prize!

She visited old friends and reveled in a weekend away.

They both enjoyed Friendsgiving and a weekend home together and relaxed mornings for the first time in a long time.

The end of November is all about them working together to prepare and store the big prize to last the year and getting ready for the upcoming holiday season.

C&G in October

In September they got married, and went on the most perfect honeymoon.

G started planning life after wedding planning almost immediately.

C started planning hunting trips almost immediately.

Together in October they worked hard to get the house back in running order, because man it was pretty much a hurricane there for a while.

With friends they celebrated theirs and other big events even more (the Shaubers and the Vush’s both had house warmings).

G went hiking to catch a glimpse of the beautiful fall foliage.

C went did lots of hunting, coming home with a small prize and lots of sightings.

It was a phenomenal first month of marriage.

Our Honeymoon in Wine Country, NY

I’ve been a married lady all of about 2 weeks now. The whole idea of being married is still settling in on me. Wedding pictures are forthcoming I promise, but today I want to talk about the honeymoon.

We stayed at the Savanna House on Seneca lake, in the honeymoon sweet. It was absolutely delightful. The whole thing was the size of a small apartment decorated in the shabby chic style that really reminds me of NY, Finger Lakes style. When we entered the room there were lavender scented candles alight, and tranquil music playing. It was absolutely perfect! What’s better is that the masseuse arrived about 2 minutes after we did, starting this honeymoon off right. We ended the night pretty early with a bottle of cider that was a wedding gift, cheese crackers and veggies that I had brought for snacks throughout the week.

After a hearty breakfast at a local diner we ventured to Pulteney Square and then did the Keuka Lake Wine tour. We finished off the day by ordering an obscene amount of Chinese food and a nice long bath.

In case you are wondering these are the wineries we visited: Bully Hill, Keuka Vineyards, Heron Hill, Dr. Frank’s Wine Cellars, Deep Root, & Yates Cellars.

The next day we ventured to Watkins Glen for breakfast at Glen Mountain Bakery and a short hike that deserves its own post (coming soon).

Lunch was burgers at the Village Marina. Which put us into a food coma enough to take a nap. Since most winerys close at 6 and we woke up at 5:30 we decided to hang out in our sweet, read and find a nice place for dinner. We decided on Nonna’s Trattoria in Geneva. It was classic Italian food, that was delicious, another food coma ensued.

The following day we chose a few wineries along Seneca Lake, and Cayuga Lake to hit as we made our way back to pick the Brody Monster.

The wineries that we visited on this part of the trip included: HJ Wiemer Winery, Pompous Ass Winery, Red Newt, Wagner Winery, Lamoreaux Landing, and Sheldrake Point.

With puppy in tow we finally made it back to our favorite camping spot for a few days to finalize the week.

I couldn’t ask for a more perfect honeymoon. I think Chuck enjoyed it as well. It was simple, easy, and perfectly romantic, as well as very us. We also ended up coming home with about 2 cases of wine, so I think we did alright.

DIY beaded Ribbon Belt for a Wedding

I’ve mentioned before that a lot of things for this wedding I made myself, most of the wedding dress was no exception. I’ll get to more of the details on that later, for now I just want to talk about one piece of the dress; the belt.

Honestly I had no plans on wearing a belt until I went dress shopping and tried one on. My family really liked the way it looked on me, and since I chose such a simple dress they liked the way a little glitz looked with it. Who am I to argue? Except when it got down to the price.

A simple beaded belt ran as cheap as $200. Yeah read that again. I was floored, that cost more than my dress (again we will talk about the dress more in the future). There was no way I was going to pay that kind of money for a belt that I would never wear again. So the only obvious solution was to make it myself.

I had a million ideas and bought a ton of supplies to start with but what I ended up using cost less than $15. Would you like to know the secret? I used stick on beads from the craft paper section (similar stickers). That’s right these beads were meant to stick on scrap books. I chose to use them for a number of reasons; for one they already had a pretty rad design that I didn’t have to think up myself. Secondly they just stuck on, so there was no sewing necessary, which saves so much time. Third they were actually cheaper than the pearls and rhinestones made for sewing on that I wanted to use. I was afraid, and correctly so that they wouldn’t stick well to the fabric so I also invested in some E6000® Craft Adhesive as well. The glue worked like a charm and kept those babies on the ribbon.

This project was done in just one afternoon. It was as simple as peal, glue and stick. I did reshape parts of the design and add to it, but that wasn’t really too complex. I decided to keep the design basic and understated since that’s the look of the dress, though I don’t think it would have been too hard to go crazy with the rhinestones.

I really enjoyed this project and am completely thrilled with the results. I even got compliments on it from people who had no idea that I made it myself. I’m even more pleased to have such a big hand in the design of my final outfit for my wedding day, without spending a ton of money something that I would only wear once.
