Last weekend was pretty darn gross around these parts. It wasn’t quite raining, but the air was damp, the snow was melty and there was a weird haze just hanging around. At best I would say that it was gloomy….

I am. I totally am.
2017 was a lot. I’m not going to tell you I loved every minute of it because let’s be honest, nauseous, contraction selfies are not showing up in anyone’s top 9. I will say that I loved the vast majority of those minutes though. So many firsts and so much learning. Learning about my self, my relationship, my kid, just so much….
It’s a pretty awesome thing when morels just pop up in your back yard. It happened last year as well, but honestly, I didn’t expect that kind of luck twice. There were even more of them this year, which is super exciting. I’m not holding out hope for next year so as not to be disappointed. I know that I’m eventually going to have to learn how to actually find these guys out in the wild, but for now, this works….
Dal is a traditionally Indian dish that has a tendency to look a little different depending on whose home you’re in. It’s kind of like tomato sauce in Italy. Every family has “their” recipe and it’s the best one you’ll ever have, according to them, anyway.
These are the kinds of recipes that I love. They are rustic and homey and so, so comforting. I may not have any Mideast or Asian genes in me (but really who knows these things?), but I can still appreciate all the feels that this dish brings. It was a welcome comfort after the wild weekend and stressful week that happened last week….
